Gone are the days when every other student aspired to be a doctor or an engineer. Today the so called unconventional fields like Law, Hotel Management, BBA, Fashion designing are into vogue and students are making a beeline to get into prestigious colleges offering these courses.

The present decade has been labeled as the era of business, business administration and business graduates as entrepreneurship is attracting the youth as the most prestigious avenue. A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a three-year program; is perhaps the most sought after course along with engineering and medicine at the undergraduate level. A degree from a reputed University or college would ensure a sound start to a rewarding and challenging career in management.

The BBA program aims at developing a student's intellectual ability, executive personality and managerial skills through an appropriate blending of business and general education. The program assists the student in understanding and developing the unique leadership qualities required for successfully managing business functions, an organizational unit or an enterprise.

The specific objectives of the program are to:
produce up-to-date, assertive and effective executives for business and other organizations, and prepare students for higher studies in business at home and abroad.

Starting in Management

As far as eligibility for management courses is concerned, admission to the BBS (Bachelors in Business Studies) is granted to students who have cleared the 10+2 examination in any stream.

Any entrance exam would generally test the candidate in the following areas:

  • Business Awareness
  • General Awareness (GK)
  • Quantitative Aptitude (Maths)
  • Reasoning Ability (Logic)

  • Technology management, which specializes in all aspects of technology, including policy, financing and marketing ; and
  • Rural management, which is concerned with management of rural resources, environment, agricultural produce and so on.
     

Career Prospects

Those in the managerial field inevitably have a good future if they are adaptable. An undergraduate degree like BBM, or from an unknown institution may not give a good start. At the other end of the spectrum, post-graduate students from IIMs start off anywhere between 30,000-1,00,000 salary per month.
